THE MT.RINJANI TREK 2 NIGHTS / 3 DAYS

This classic route in Mt Rinjani National Parks start from Senaru ends at Sembalun Lawang, and includes Mt Rinjani's crater rim, Segara Anak Lake, Sacred hot spring and Summit (3,726m)

Day 1


Register at the Rinjani Trek Center (CRT) in Senaru (601 m) early in the morning, meet your guide and arrange National Park entry tickets. The RTC staff briefing describes the route details, local cultural traditions and what you might see, and explains rubbish management and safety procedures. The first hours of the trek climb steadily through thick tropical forest rich in flora, bird life and variety of butterflies.

You might see orchid, the long tailed grey macaque monkey-kera and, if lucky, the rare black ebony leaf monkey, known locally as lutung, Rusa dear are forest dwellers are occasionally seen along the trek trail. The smaller barking deer or kijang has an alarm call with a distinct dog -like bark. Rest stops are taken along the way, and in Pos 2 Montong Satas shelter (1.500m) where village stories and local legend are related by your guide. Feature includes the banyan tree bunut ngengkang that look like someone with their legs apart, and the batu penyesalan stone.

You will reach at Pos 3 Mondokan Lolak (2,000m) after about five hours climb from Senaru Crater rim at 2,641m. From the creater rim are sweeping view across to Bali and Mount Agung down to Segara Anak Lake (2.000m) within the Rinjani crater Mt Baru (2,352) is and island in the lake an an active volcano, last erupting dramatically in 1994. After enjoying the view, the trek proceeds for a couple of hours down the trail to the Crater Lake where the rest of the day is spent relaxing and swimming. Day 2



Enjoy the time during the morning for relaxing, swimming in the lake and explore the caves and the beautiful view of the lake. You will have your lunch in your camp around the lake and by 2.00 pm leave the lake and climb for the three hour steep accent up to Plawangan to Sembalun crater rim (2,639m).

Look out for edelweiss along the path. Observe the view of the lake from other side and the island of Sumbawa across the tropical ocean. You will stay overnight in the camp site of plawangan to sembalun crater rim enjoy your dinner by the night sounds.

Day 3




At 3 am start is necessary for the three hours climb to summit (3,726m) on volcanic screen. Once there, enjoy proud feelings of satisfaction and amazing sunrise views across the Wallace Line to Bali, Mt. Agung and Sumbawa and down to Segara anak lake (2,000m) within the Rinjani crater.

Mt Baru (2,351m) is an island in the lake and active volcano. At 6.30 returns to crater rim camp and it take time approximately 1.5 hours for a well-reserved breakfast at 8.30. By 9.00 am start descent from the Sembalun crater rim is amidst the pier-like Casuarina species locally known as Cemara, and perhaps seeing evidence of wild pigs. After three hours walk through Pada Balong (1,800m) you will have your lunch on the way of trek called Tengengean, Pos 2 (1,500m) - grassland used as cattle grazing by local people -.

After lunch proceed your descent, from here beautiful of Sembalun Lawang and Sembalun Bumbung villages, known for coffee production until the crop was changed to garlic to take the advantage of garlic boom in early 1990's. The road head is reached after another three hours gentle descent through open country, and the trek ends at the Rinjani Information Centre at Sembalun Lawang by 3 pm. You will be dropped by pickup to Sapit where your bus standby waits for you and takes about half hour with the distance is more thab 10 km. The road is too many bend but you will go through the tropical forest with and having good experience with a nice view.

TIPS
If you are planning on travelling around the island and visiting small villages it is more respectable to wear slacks or knee length shorts, a shirt with sleeves or a sarong.

If you happended to be here during Ramadhan, which is the Muslim month of fasting from sunrise to sunset, please do not to eat, drink or smoke out in the open public during this month long fast.
Even though the people don't seem bothered in the common tourist areas like Senggigi and Gili islands, it is better to respect the people and not eat or smoke openly.
