A large number of existing places and products have been identified for immediate tourism development. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

Coastal
Tourism Lombok and Sumbawa, as well as many of surrounding islands, have long stretches of coastline suitable for tourism development. Stable water temperatures, white and black sand beaches, coral reefs and good water visibility have immense appeal for tourists. Potential development would include swimming, snorkeling, diving, surfing, water sports and boating activities. Suggested areas for development include: Lombok: Senggigi Beach, Gili Air, Gili Meno, Gili Trawangan; beach area in the south of Lombok, such as Kuta, Selong Blanak, A'an , Mawun; in southwest Lombok, Bangko-Bangko, Gili Gede, Gili Sulat, Gili Indah. Sumbawa: Saliperate Beach, Moyo Island, Satonda Island, Lunyuk Beach, Maluk Beach, Hu'u Beach, Waja Beach, Lawata Beach. |

Mountain
Tourism Volcanoes, crater lakes, mountain ranges, hills and elevated plateaus are a feature of both islands and provide potential tourism opportunities. Suggested areas of interest include: Mt Rinjani (the volcano itself, the secondary volcanic cone and the crater lake), Sendang Gila waterfall and the surrounding Rinjani National Park, Suranadi, Mt Tambora, forests at Mekaki Bay, Otak Kokok Gading, Kembang Kuning. |

Marine
Tourism Many diving sites have already been discovered with only a small number currently developed. The water visibility and conditions are generally good and, given the number of coral reefs within the region, there is enormous potential for further debelopment. Existing sites include Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, Gili Air, Gili Nanggu, sites around the southwest islands; Selong Blanak and sites around the south coast; Moyo Island and Satonda in Sumbawa. |

Cultural
Tourism All areas within the region have distinctive cultural identities and provide a rich environment for tourists wishing to explore and experience different cultures; West Nusa Tenggara is home to the Sasak people, Balinese Hindu, Chinese Indonesian, traditional Bugis, Arab traders, the unique Wektu Telu prople, Samawa and Mbojo peoples, among others. All these groups provide the visitor with opportunities to observe local customs, villages, traditions, rituals and ceremonies, and traditional crafts, music and dances. |

Historical
Tourism The region has a long history of indigenous occupation, as well as successive waves of exploration by Indian, Portuguese, Arab and Dutch traders. Historical artifacts, architecture and sites provide a wealth of potential for tourism. For example: Museum West Nusa Tenggara, Grave of General Van Ham (1894), Mayura Water Palace (1744), Meru Temple (1720), Dalam Loka (19th century), Sarkopagus (ancient tombs), Doro Bata, Wadu Pa'a. |

Agricultural
Tourism Many opportunities exist to view alternative and traditional agricultural practices within the region. Some of these include: pearl cultivation in many parts of area; prawn and fish farming; sea grass cultivation; traditional sailing races; the famous Nyale Festival at Kuta; local horse breeding; traditional horse racing; decorative horse cars (Cidomo) used for transport and racing; Brangus Ox cultivation, planting and harvesting techniques using buffalo. Many of these activities also have attendant rituals and ceremonies, specific to the culture. These fertile areas of Lombok provide opportunities to view many types of tropical fruit plantations, rice paddies planting, growing and harvesting is mostly by traditional methods, decorative plant cultivation, sugar palm cultivation, as well as large areas growing rice, coffee and tobacco for local consumption and export. |
